Corporate support for cranes
We are a local charity which raises funds for research into the causes and prevention of cancer, focussing in particular on bowel and lung cancer, two of the most prevalent cancers in the North East. All monies raised by cranes go directly to fund work carried out at Aberdeen University’s Institute of Medical Sciences at Foresterhill and at ARI.
cranes was formed in 2003 and since then we have raised over £500,000. The funds have paid for equipment to train medical personnel in early diagnosis of bowel and lung cancer and we have also recently launched an exciting new project to develop cancer research skills amongst the best medical students in Aberdeen. The Cranes Future Leaders in Cancer Research fund will enable the brightest students to undertake small research projects, travel to international meetings or conferences or visit other laboratories to study new techniques.
Our latest donation of £60,000 – about 70% of the overall cost, has been given to the University of Aberdeen School of Medicine to purchase an Applied Biosystems 7900 HT. This machine allows for samples to be analysed more quickly, efficiently and with a fraction of the size. This cutting edge new system will ensure that the school is at the forefront of cancer research in the UK.
Our funds are raised through donations and fundraising events. But there is much more work to be done in the field of cancer research. To this end, cranes are now seeking to expand our work through corporate support, by attracting companies to either sponsor one of our fundraising events or to choose cranes as their nominated charity for the year. Could you help us to push forward further research to help reduce the future impact of cancer in our area?
Please contact us if you have any queries, would like to learn more about the research work we are supporting or would like to make a donation or support an event. We'd love to hear from you.
